It is important that where you exercise is cleaned on a regular basis. This does not mean just vacuuming or mopping floors but disinfecting the items people touch on a regular basis. Would it surprise you to learn that dumbbell handles, seats on exercise bikes, stability balls, and floor mats are hot spots for germs? Norovirus, which causes stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea, can survive for a month on the surface of exercise machines.

Bench Press ExerciseWe make sure our facility is cleaned daily. We vacuum several times each day, disinfect the bathrooms on a regular basis throughout the day, and wipe down handles/water fountains. Equipment is disinfected regularly and the carpets are steam cleaned and scheduled for consistent cleaning. It not only makes the environment aesthetically appealing but it helps keep everyone a little healthier.

Now that winter is fast approaching the cold and flu season is upon us. Here are some ways to help prevent catching unwanted germs and bacteria:Woman Exercising

  • Bandage any cuts or broken skin before you go to the gym.
  • Wash your hands before and after your gym routine.
  • Be sure to wipe down machines before and after use with a cleaner and paper towel.
  • Bring your own water bottle and wash it out on a regular basis.
  • Keep dirty clothes and sneakers in a dedicated bag.
  • Spray down your gym bag with a disinfectant often.
  • Wash workout clothes after each gym visit.
